self-isolation or self-realisation

Times are obviously very strained right now, with Covid-19 being spoke about left, right and centre and being fed into our minds by the media. It can feel like the Coronavirus Pandemic is consuming our lives, understandably, as we are continuously being told what to do by the government.

The thought of a self-isolation can seem daunting to some, especially with the insecurity of the current situation, as we are unsure as to how long we will be living like this. As individuals, we are used to routine: working Monday-Friday and relaxing on the weekends. Now it seems like every day is a Sunday. And what are Sunday’s for? Netflix, pampering and sleeping.

Take this self-isolation to look after yourself and discover a new you. Take this time to...

- Detox from social media

Social media seems to be very “depressing” to listen to right now. Of course, you want to be kept up to date with what’s going on in the world, now more than never, but scrolling endlessly through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook isn’t going to help your mental health and anxiety. Have a detox. Leave your phone/laptop in your room and communicate with your family… they can be fun, so I have been told. This will be very beneficial when you take the time to take it all in and enjoy life without the handhold device.

- Stay Active!

Self-isolating does not have to mean you have to stay inside, watching Netflix or Disney+ all day. Create a routine where you find a balance which includes physical activity. Take advantage of that one outdoor exercise a day, do home workouts in the garden or living room (personal trainers are doing Instagram live home workouts) and just keep active, otherwise you’ll stiffen up. The summer bod has got to start somewhere.Including exercise into your daily routine, not only creates a past time during these long days but also, you create a routine and you’ll feel great when this is all over. You will be able to fit into that summer dress for when you meet up with your friends.

Challenge yourself this week, do 3x hour workouts and see how you feel by the end of the week, and continue it for the upcoming weeks.

- Discover a new hobby/talent.

You’re never too old to discover a new talent or hobby. You may have been putting off learning that new language due to not having enough time. Well, now you have all the time in world. Take time in between your daily exercise and binge watching that Netflix show to learn a new language, discover the creative side of your brain or even, learn a Tik Tok dance. That seems all the rage these days. Spend this time discovering something new that you love. Who knows, it may come in handy in the future.

- Keep in contact with your friends.

The world we live in today, we are blessed to have social media, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Skype, makes it all easier to keep in contact from people across the globe. Self-isolation can feel scary and unsettling on some, it’s important to check up on your loved ones. Send a funny snapchat, FaceTime your grandparents, keep that group chat alive and so forth. Although it’s called “self-isolation/social distancing” it does not mean you can’t be social. Check up on your loved ones, friends and family, you never know what they are going through during these crazy times.

- Organise your life

Organising your life can make you seem so put together...or so I have been told. Organising can start from your bedroom. You can clean, declutter or rearrange your room. Or it can be something simple such as organising your mobile phone. I know it sounds odd, but I feel so much better when my photos, playlists and apps are organised. Social media can be another place where you can organise, you can create Pinterest boards or organise your Instagram highlights. Doing this, you will feel a lot more at ease and it helps you to get away from the sofa or bed that you’re cooped up in.

- Mediate!

We all need to get away and look after our health through this unprecedented time of our lives. Meditate, yoga, pray...whatever helps you relax and get rid of all those worries that’s happening in the world, DO IT. You will benefit from it in the long run. Tension will be released from your body and content within yourself and you will feel like a new person by the end of this pandemic.

It is absolutely normal for one to feel lost and apprehensive about everything. Nonetheless, you can turn this situation into a positive. Of course, these are just minor things in grand scheme of things, but all you can do is make the best out of an unfortunate situation.

Take these few weeks to detox, discover a new you and just be positive. Don’t forget to wash your hands and stay safe, stay home and we will fight this together.
